Geauga Benefit Auction Coming August 23

August 12, 2024

For anyone who enjoys a good, old-fashioned country auction, this year’s DDC Clinic Geauga Benefit Auction on Friday, August 23 promises to be a not-to-be-missed event.

Held as a fundraiser for DDC Clinic, the annual Geauga Benefit Auction features a day of food, fun, fellowship and the excitement of bidding on an amazing array of items, large and small.

This year’s big-ticket offerings include custom kitchen cabinets with countertops, a 16 x 20-foot timber-frame pavilion with concrete floor, and a 32 x 48-foot building constructed on the buyer’s site.

Additional featured items include a 3-seater surrey, buggies, harnesses and tack, tools, farm supplies, and two piglets that come with a pen and shelter. Also up for auction are Amish quilts, home accessories, handcrafted furniture, a live-edge dining room table and much more.

One of the more unusual yet practical offerings available this year is comprehensive orthodontic treatment, including braces.

Hungry event attendees can enjoy hamburgers, barbecue chicken, homemade ice cream, soft pretzels and baked goods available for purchase at the all-day lunch stand.

This year marks the 24th annual Geauga Benefit Auction. The event has grown in size each year, becoming DDC Clinic’s largest fundraising event.

“The benefit auction here in Middlefield was initiated as a fundraiser for the local community, raising $30,000 that first year, back in 2001,” said Eli Miller, DDC Clinic Executive Director. “Since then, it has grown to include attendees from surrounding states and communities, raising more than $400,000 in 2023.”

In addition to the Geauga Benefit Auction, two other summer auctions are held annually to support DDC Clinic, one in Shiloh, Ohio and the other in Spartansburg, Pennsylvania. All three benefit auctions are organized by Amish and Mennonite members within those communities.

“These three auctions raise a substantial portion of the funds that we need to sustain our clinic’s mission, provide significantly reduced costs for diagnostic testing, and help special needs children get comprehensive medical care,” said Eli Miller. “We can do these things because of the incredible community support we receive. We’re so very humbled and grateful to the many dedicated volunteers and generous supporters who come together each year to make these events successful.”

This year’s Geauga Benefit Auction takes place at the John (Buster) Miller Farm at 17719 Newcomb Rd. in Middlefield, OH. The main auction begins at 2 p.m., with the second auction ring starting at 6 p.m. The lunch stand opens at 11 a.m. Admission to the event is free.
