FAQS About DDC

Q: Why should I go to DDC Clinic?

A: DDC Clinic’s primary focus is to help special needs children with metabolic and inherited disorders – through diagnosis, treatment and research. Rare disorders are usually difficult to diagnose and treat because of the amount of time it requires and the lack of information.

Q: What is a Rare Disorder?

A: A rare or ‘orphan’ disease affects fewer than 200,000 people in the United States. There are more than 6,000 rare disorders that, when added together, affect approximately 20 million Americans.

Q: Do you work with my pediatrician?

A: Yes, we believe comprehensive and integrated care will greatly enhance treatment outcomes.

Q: Is the Medical Director, Dr. Wang a pediatrician?

A: Yes, and he is also a researcher. Prior to becoming a medical physician, Dr. Wang worked in research.

Q: Why is it beneficial to work with a physician-researcher?

A: It is physician-scientists who have traditionally moved discoveries into treatment or prevention. Physician-scientists number only 14,000 in the United States. Dr. Wang’s research background has been key in forming collaborations with 10 science research groups and various medical centers.

Q: What type of results has the Clinic seen?

A: Dr. Wang has diagnosed more then 35 genetic and metabolic conditions. Some are familiar. He has also diagnosed 3 cases of prolidase deficiency (previously 40 known worldwide) and 28 cases of cohen syndrome (previously 105 known worldwide).

Diagnosing a genetic/metabolic disorder, however, is only the first step. After the diagnosis, you move on to the next challenge.
