Grant Updates

 

DDC Clinic gratefully acknowledges the support of the following organizations and individuals, whose generosity has made possible the high level of research and education we have been able to provide our patients and their families.

The Kresge Foundation - Challenge grant 
This grant is made on a challenge basis to assist in raising the balance required to complete our
capital campaign goal of 1.5 million dollars to fund the building of our new facility.

Robert Wood Johnson and Local Initiative Funding Partners—4 Year Grant started in 2004
The objectives of this grant are to deliver modern medical and genetic knowledge to families affected by genetic disease and to the community through educational outreach, leading to optimal care in the affected individuals and increased awareness about the diseases.  The ultimate goal is to decrease the incidence of genetic diseases and complications, to maximize individual and community health potential.

Johnson & Johnson Community Health Care Program Award Grant – 2 year grant started in 2006
The objective of this grant is to expand services to improve the health and well-being of children with special needs by establishing an on-site multidisciplinary rehabilitation program.

United Way Services, Geauga County – 1 year grant started in 2007
This grant will provide approximately 314 preventive visits and 500 transportation vouchers to families. A nurse practitioner will conduct preventive exams with a pro-health educational component.

Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Foundation – 4 year grant began in 2007
This grant is to establish a Children’s Future Fund to improve the quality of medical care to special needs children.

Anonymous donor for Research Grant 
 

With these grants, DDC Clinic has accomplished the following:

  • DDC Clinic has created newsletters that contain educational information and family stories about the diseases.  One newsletter is designed just for the Amish families and one to non-Amish families.  We distribute approximately 5000 each mailing.

  • DDC Clinic staff has been invited by Cleveland Clinic Foundation, National Institutes of Health (NIH) and many prominent institutions for grand rounds and international conferences to present our work throughout the country.

  • DDC Clinic staff has published 5 research papers in 2007 and 4 in 2006 in prestigious peer-reviewed journals.

  • DDC Clinic has created the National Cohen Syndrome Support Center and holds annual family meetings.

  • DDC Clinic collaborates with over 15 medical centers in the United States and Europe.

  • DDC Clinic began an on-site therapy program once a week with a licensed physical therapist and expanded the program to work with the Geauga County Board of MRDD and the Geauga Transit System.

  • DDC Clinic has seen a 20% increase in our Preventive Visit Program by sending follow-up cards to families to remind them of preventive visits along with the voucher to ride Geauga Transit System at no charge.
